Abstract

The methodology for evaluation and decision-making for priority action on road network improvement outlined in this article is an application of multicriteria analysis techniques. Such techniques, as their name implies, make it possible to consider various criteria, with the purpose of fulfilling the objectives established. Bearing in mind the environmental and socioeconomic implications of possible measures, the aspects to be considered must inevitably be numerous and heterogeneous. The application to a specific case -the road network in the HIGH PYRENEES MAB-6 area- aims to clarify for the reader the philosophy behind these techniques of analysis and of defining priorities. One of the most important steps in this analysis is the consideration and selection of criteria, and the weighting of different alternatives of action.
