Female mobility in the city. Notes from a case study
Abstract
Population mobility -and especially the patterns of spatial behaviour of the different social groups- is an important subject in urban geography, due to its great influence on severa1 other aspects of urban life. As several studies have pointed out, the differences arising grom gender are the most obvious. This paper aims at detecting the way in which different features -as age. Kind of activity, or socio-economical level- influence female mobility and its realtionship to the alredy known male patterns. We focus especially on aspects such as motives, frequency and means of transportation of economically active women, comparing it to male ones in similar situations. We aim at proving to what extend female incorporation to the labour market has changed the traditional division of family roles in our social context.
