Gender, space, and environment: Towards a conceptual renewal of geography? An introduction

Abstract

In recent years growing interest has been shown in the conceptual contribution which gender geography offers within the discipline. In human geography the study of production (economic geography) has remained independent from the study of distribution and consumption (social and welfare geography); while, by contrast, gender geography incoporates and integrated analysis of both spheres of activity, given that it conceives a close interrelation between home and work. The Editorial Committee of this journal considered it worthwhile to publish a monographic issue on the subject of gender in the light of the interest which it has aroused in many geographical circles, with finnancial support from the Institute for Women (Ministry of Social Affairs).
