Abstract

1989 marked the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of the well-known book The Nature of Geography by Richard Hartshorne. This work represented the culmination of the effort of American geography to give scientific status to the chorological and regional perspective; in fact, this book has been an unavoidable reference in all studies of geographical thought.
