Notes from the International Colloquium: les inondations d'Octobre 1940 en Catalogne. 50 ans passés

Abstract

A colloquium on the floods in Catalonia in October 1940 was held at Vernet-les-Bains (France) from 18th to 20th October 1990. The purpose was not only to examine ther circumstances which provoked the disaster, but also to suggest preventive measures as a consequence. A series of related activities were also organised, consisting of an exhibition of graphic illustrations, films and published material, and a field trip. It became obvius that the study of flooding should not be overbooked, especially as there axists a growing tendency among the human race to disregard risks.
