Abstract

In an attempt to discover where and in what kinds of jobs geographers are working, a modest research project was carried out to trace the professional activity of the UAB Departament of Geography graduates (moming students were graduated between 1978 and 1989). The main conclusion is that there is a definite change in careers from 1985 onwards, when teaching ceases to be the main job outlet and is replaced by employment in public administration or in private enterprise, as a result not only of the difficulty in finding jobs in teaching but also in the greater acceptance of geography graduates in other fields.
