lood Risk Mapping: A Tool for Planning
Abstract
This article examines the ways in which cartography can contribute to the planning and management of storm-flood risk. After resumé of the main characteristics of this type of risk and the main mechanisms which can be adopted to combat it, the authors propose a form of cartographic representation. Their proposal consists of three elements: a) data-base and registration file of flood incidence; b) basic cartography and symbols to be used; c) specific mapping (risk potential and land-use maps, and finally risk maps).
