Geography and Gender in the Context of Southern Europe

Abstract

An Internacional Seminar on «Womenls Work, Women's Employement and Daily Life: A Focus on Southern Europen» was held in June 1993, organized by the Department of Geography of the Universitat Autbnoma de Barcelona, with the collaboration of the Erasmus Programme and the Catalan Institute for Women. The Seminar was part of the activities of a network of universities integrated in the EC Erasmus programme. Lasting ten days, it was attended by some one hundred people. The intense work schedule included conferences on topics related to geography and gender in both rural and urban settings, and of both an analytical and methodological nature. These alternated with work group sessions and field visits to Barcelona and Girona, focusing on aspects of work and everyday life of women in Southem Europe.
