Abstract

Intersectionality is a rising theoretical and methodological concept in gender studies and has become one the most inclusive approaches to take into account multiple categories of difference in identity and power relations. However, gender studies in geography, and especially in rural geography, have traditionally addressed difference from a less global perspective, that is, outside the framework of intersectional theory. This paper examines the state of the art of the existing literature on gender studies in rural geography and brings to light the most recent works on difference and identity while emphasizing those that include a clear intersectional approach.
