Spatial Analysis of the NATO Referendum (March 1986) in the Canary Islands
Abstract
In March 1986 the referendum for the permanence of Spain in the NATO was celebrated with a clear positive result. However in four autonomous communities (regional governments) the result was negative. In this paper the case of the Canary Islands is analyzed; on the one hand, the explanatory factors of the Canarian electoral body are studied and, on the other, the differentiating features from the other above mentioned autonomous communities.
