Abstract

In this paper, the evolution and main characteristics of the geography journals included in the Journal of Citation Reports of the Social Science Citation Index are presented. The study period encompasses the period between 1997 and 2005. A total of 39 journals have been included, and an important proportion of those have remained along the study period. A total of ten journals have been located between the five more important of every year and not one has been the most important more than two years. 18 topics have been identified, generalists, economics and regional being the most important ones. The majority of the journals have been published by commercial publishers, Blackwell being the most present. The origin of the journals is clearly Anglo-Saxon with only two journals edited in other languages. The second part of the paper describes all the journals cited together with a short review of each.
