Abstract

The article is presented in an unconventional format: an exchange of correspondence between the authors. The dialogue revolves around the function and usefulness of geography in the context of the turbulent contemporaneity in which we live, where space continues to be transcendental at the same time as it seems to dematerialize. Based on the assumption and conviction that this usefulness has existed for centuries, what should it be like currently? And how should it be exercised? The answers to these questions are not clear or compelling, but rather diverse and purposeful; based on the essential function of geography: nurturing what Giuseppe Dematteis called “metaphors”, intentional descriptions of reality capable of making visible, of emerging, what is not obvious from the world in which we live, with the problems and possibilities that it offers us.
